When I was a kid I had this terrible habit of opening up electronics and trying to take them apart. I once did it to my dad’s stereo. Unfortunately I couldn’t put it back together. It wasn’t that I was being destructive. I was curious.
I collected wires and dc motors and low voltage lamps. Along with my brothers we used to try to make stuff. Didn’t get too far though. The coolest thing I remember we made was a spinning art piece. We attached a round piece of cardboard to the motor and had it spin. We then hit it with markers. Pretty lame in hindsight, but to us it was so cool! We dreamt up ideas of what we could make. That was part of my everyday, the dreaming, that is. ADHD to the max. I built tons of unbuildable stuff. I hoped one day to have a workshop like the one in Back to The Future where those dreams would come true.
The Tinkerer is kind of my salute to that little boy who in my imagination never grew up nor tired of dreaming.
